The Group Leader is responsible for leading significant initiatives for the EPS Architectural Product Development and Commercialization Group located in Marengo, IL. Plans and performs technical research, new polymer development, and commercialization processes. The successful candidate for this position will have experience in new polymer development and/or coating formulation in the North American Architectural market segment. Responsibilities will include working with multiple technologies, leading multiple projects for new polymer development, and identifying market technology trends and unmet market needs.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Serves as a technical lead for the Architectural team to develop new polymer technologies for relevant markets
Market segments include, but are not limited to, concrete sealers, decorative and functional concrete coatings, architectural topcoats and primers.
Leads technology innovation for waterborne acrylic and styrenated acrylic resins; leads new product development projects; monitors group work and provides direction to the R&D team
Develops project objectives, which includes timelines, materials, personnel, determining project feasibility, and other project requirements, and receives management approval
Develops industry relevant coating formulations based on EPS polymers; evaluates using industry standard test methods; educates customers on use and best practices of EPS technology
Identifies customer requirements and market needs, ensuring alignment with project goals and new technology development
Reviews and evaluates project status, outcomes, and direction to ensure conformity with project objectives; determines corrective action and implements changes; has considerable latitude within project objectives
Serves as a member of project teams and assists with developing division or group sales, production, research, and related objectives
Understands competitive landscape; generates benchmarking data with identified competitive polymers and commercially available coatings
Oversees and/or serves as a primary technical contact and responds to highly technical and complex questions and concerns from customers, research professionals, quality control, and other internal and external parties regarding EPS products
Reads and interprets patents and academic literature, examines new product concepts and technologies, and determines how to meet customer needs and market demands
Applies a thorough understanding of EPS, industry, and competitor technologies, application methods, products, and manufacturing processes regarding the research and development of new polymers; has developed products involving multiple technologies
Assists with developing appropriate policies and procedures to ensure compliance with research and development principles and practices and applicable laws, rules, and regulations; monitors compliance with these areas
Design and execute experiments, draw conclusions, and make recommendations
Understands structure property relationships and can communicate this to peers and customers
Functions under limited supervision and be able to independently design experiments and write reports with limited, to no, review
Accountable for contributing solutions to complex projects
Leads project update meetings, special request meetings, and customer, marketing, and vendor meetings and attends customer meetings, ISO, line, safety, technical meetings, management reviews, and seminars.
Communicate detailed ideas concisely through written communication by writing technical reports.
Comply with and displays knowledge of all safety and security regulations and maintain a clean work area
Travel possible for manufacturing support, application sessions, exposure series, field tests, and customer visits
Attend sales shows and provide outside customer service
Train or mentor new or lower level technologists/technicians
Adhere to company safety standards at all times

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
1.FORMAL EDUCATION:
a.Required:
i.Bachelor's Degree in Bachelor's Degree in Science with 2 semesters of General Chemistry and 2 semesters of Organic Chemistry
b.Preferred:
i.Master's degree or PhD preferred
2.KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
a.Required:
i.5 ? 7 years of industry experience
ii.Demonstrated leadership experience
iii.Demonstrated development and commercialization of new products
b.Preferred
i.Success with patent filings and obtaining patents
ii.Lean Six Sigma project management experience and/or certification

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to sit, stand, hear, and see on a constant basis.
Must be able to walk, write, and type on a frequent basis.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
Must be able to climb and descend stairs.
Must be able to bend, carry, reach, push, and pull on an occasional basis.
Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing.
May be exposed to varying amounts of dust and dirt.
Work surfaces may include concrete.
Employee must be able to tolerate non-toxic paint odors and be able to wear a respirator as required.
Employee must be able to operate a computer and communicate via telephone.
Some travel to other locations, meetings and/or seminars is required.
Must have a valid driver's license.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree in Science with 2 semesters of General Chemistry and 2 semesters of Organic Chemistry
Must be eligible to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status).

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
